Things We Like…

Things we like, right now…

1. Clementines: sweet and delicious

2. Edamame: comes frozen at the grocery store, steam in microwave for a few minutes-what could be easier?  This salty snack satisfies any craving, and beat pigging out on chips.  Add a little sea salt and toasted sesame seeds and call it a day.

3. Whoopie Pies from Chococoa Baking Company in Newburyport: if you haven’t tried them yet, you need to soon.

4. The feeling we have after completing the BAA charity 17 miler on the Boston Marathon Course!  This past Saturday we boarded the buses at Riverside with hundreds of other charity runners to take on the course.  It was a great day, weatherwise, which made the run seem like  a breeze.

The buses dropped us off around mile 9 in Natick, and we ran right through to the finish line.  Many other Bay State Gamers and Go Kids runners participated, and everyone seemed in good spirits at the end of the race.

The next BAA charity run will be held on March 27th.  It is 21 miles on the course-beginning at the starting line in Hopkinton and ending at the peak of Heartbreak Hill.  We will be ready!

Training Update

Here we are in the dead of winter, and marathon training is in full swing.  With two really quality long runs under our belts, as well as a few very successful fundraisers, confidence is at a high!

I competed and completed the Boston Prep 16 miler in Derry, NH  just last Sunday.  Let me tell you-tough course, but extremely well worth it.  If you are you planning to run Boston, it is a great training race, as it simulates the Boston course really well.

Amanda and I both braved the cold last Friday and Saturday to get in some long runs.  It was cold, but we were dressed appropriately, and therefore were fine.

Amanda is taking on the hills of Newton tonight with some other Bay State Games team members, which is sure to be a great time!

That is all for now, check back for more updates from the road.

Happy Running,

Caitlin & Amanda

New Year

First of all, Happy New Year!!  With 2010 in full swing,  our training AND fundraising alike are well underway.

Last Thursday marked our first organized fundraising event at the Bell in Hand in Boston.  Prizes were raffled off, and good times were had by all.  With the help of our loyal friends and family, we each raised close to $400!!  Not bad for our first event.

A big thank you to all those who came out and donated.  Also, thanks to the Bell in Hand for graciously donating their space and time to our event.

Stay tuned for more events on the horizon.  Next up is our Lucky Strike bowling tournament on Wednesday February 10th.  If you’d like to sign up, contact Caitlin or Amanda.  Teams of four are $60.

We will also be having a similar raffle night on March 6th at The Point.  Raffle prizes include free personal training sessions, as well as a day for 2 on a YACHT!  Stay tuned…

Meet and Greet

Hey Everyone,

First of all, thank you SO much to everyone that has already donated to our firstgiving pages!  We haven’t held any events yet, and already our friends & family have turned out to sponsor us.  We really couldn’t do this without everyone’s generous help!

So last night was our first TEAM MEETING at the New Balance offices at Brighton Landing.  We met the coach, the team we will be running with, and even met the executive director of the Bay State Games!  Everyone went around and explained why they are running the Marathon, which was amazing.  We left the meeting more excited and inspired than ever!  Not only are we running one of the best marathons in the world, but we are running for an amazing local cause.

Stay tuned!

Not So “Bandit” Beantowners

It is official!  We were recently accepted to run the 2010 Boston Marathon for the Bay State Games Charity!  This proves to be a much better situation, as the BSG group is smaller and more personal.  We are excited to get started on our training and fundraising and have many ideas for both!  Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events, and in the meantime have a wonderful Thanksgiving with family and friends!

Brown Rice Stir Fry

Last night I made a really quick and easy dinner that would be perfect for a recovery meal after a long run.  It was delicious too!

1 Bag of Uncle Bens Brown and Long Grain Rice

1 Bag of Birds Eye Asian Steam Cook Vegetables (w/out seasoning)

1 C. Cubed Tofu

Ginger Garlic Soy Sauce – Low Sodium

Heat the rice in the microwave for 90 seconds, heat the vegetables for 5 minutes and add all to a pan with the tofu. Drizzle some soy sauce on top, stir, cover and heat for 5 minutes.  Enjoy!

*This would also be really good with frozen shrimp added.
